Since its formation in the 1970s, Angus Flexible Pipelines has been at the forefront of layflat hose technology through continuous investment in research and development, carried out at the company’s Technical Centres of Excellence in the UK and Australia. With a range of flexible hose, Angus’s Wellmaster is recognised the world over as the premier flexible rising main for deep ground water extraction.

Angus Flexible Pipelines has third party accreditation to ISO 9001 Quality Management System and ISO 14001 Environmental Management. All raw materials, components and finished products are rigorously tested and inspected to ensure consistent reliability and performance.

Every metre of Wellmaster layflat hose is rigorously tested before it leaves our factory.

Why Wellmaster hose?

  • Long continuous lengths can be quickly deployed and retrieved using light duty trailers, flaking boxes or power-driven reels. High flexibility and kink resistance allows natural ground contours to be followed without putting stress on the pipeline and eliminates expensive path-cutting work. Why layflat hose?

In many applications involving fluid transfer the use of rigid pipe introduces severe limitations which can be overcome by the use of layflat hoses. The speed of deployment and retrieval, the small storage foot print and the ability to adapt to changing topography are just a few examples.

Additionally, the reduction in the number of joints delivers environmental and cost saving benefits. The ability to install certain products without the use of cranes brings significant health and safety benefits.

Minera Yanacocha, Cajamarca, Peru

  • Minera Yanacocha is one of the largest and most significant mining operations in South America, located in Cajamarca, Peru. Specialising in gold extraction, the site operates at high altitude under challenging environmental conditions, requiring highly reliable and high-performance water management systems to ensure continuous operation.

  • Minera Yanacocha required a robust and efficient pumping system capable of operating at a depth of 400 metres, handling high flow rates of 70 to 85 litres per second. The demanding conditions of the mine posed operational risks, and the client needed a solution that would ensure minimal downtime, high reliability, and a long service life in a remote and harsh environment.

  • The client needed a flexible riser system offering:

    • High pressure resistance and long-term durability

    • Rapid installation and removal to minimise labour and downtime

    • Consistent performance at depth with high flow

    • A clear return on investment (ROI) through operational efficiency and reduced costs

    The selected solution was Angus Flexible Pipelines’ Wellmaster 400 – 6”, providing:

Minera Pucobre, Copiapó, Chile

  • Minera Pucobre, located in the city of Copiapó in northern Chile, is a well-established mining operation primarily focused on copper extraction. The site operates in an arid and demanding environment, where efficient and reliable water management is essential to maintain continuous operations.

  • The operation required a durable and effective pumping solution for a borehole presenting chemically aggressive conditions, with water characterised by high pH and elevated hardness. While high temperatures were not present, the combination of chemical factors posed significant risks to conventional pumping systems. The goal was to ensure efficient water extraction, with minimal installation time, low maintenance, and strong chemical resistance.

  • The client needed a solution that would deliver:

    • High chemical resistance to aggressive water conditions

    • Proven durability in harsh mining environments

    • Safe and rapid installation with minimal equipment

    The selected solution was Wellmaster 250 – 4”, offering:

    • Outstanding resistance to corrosion and elevated pH levels

  • Angus supplied and installed Wellmaster 250, 4-inch, at a depth of 250 metres, allowing for a flow rate between 15 and 19 litres per second.
    The system was installed successfully, operating reliably and efficiently under aggressive water conditions.
